Fantastic rivers and lakes

In warmer climates like Florida, many people find the winter months to be the best time to go kayaking. There are fewer storms from late October to early March, so it's easier to control your kayak. In Sunshine State, this is also the time of year when many migratory birds visit.

The largest rivers in Florida are the St. Johns River, Choctawhatchee River, Escambia River, and Apalachicola River. Florida's freshwater fisheries include more than 7,500 lakes, ponds, and reservoirs, and approximately 12,000 miles of rivers, streams, and canals where you can fish - no closed seasons. Recreational fishing resources in these waters alone entertain over 1.2 million anglers annually. There is plenty of information available on quarterly catch forecasts that cover the most popular and productive freshwater fisheries in Florida, the Fishing Capital of the World!
